Annual Hybrid Meeting of the SPEED Project – September 4 & 5, 2025

The Annual Hybrid Meeting of the SPEED project (Strategies for regional caPacity building of hybrid ElEctric vehicle in Engineering Division) officially began today, Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the University of Stavanger, Norway, with participants attending both in person and virtually.

This first day featured rich presentations and insightful discussions on the progress made by each partner since the last meeting. Project stakeholders shared updates on ongoing activities, key achievements, and challenges encountered throughout the implementation process. A particular focus was placed on strengthening regional capacity in hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) engineering and promoting innovative teaching practices in this fast-evolving field.

SPEED aims to develop a smart platform and tailored training programs to address the growing demand for sustainable mobility solutions, while aligning engineering education with the needs of the green energy transition. The project fosters Euro-Mediterranean collaboration, emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and workforce development.

The second day of the meeting, scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, September 5, will focus on strategic planning for upcoming phases of the project, review of deliverables, and coordination of cross-cutting activities. The agenda also includes thematic workshops designed to deepen cooperation among partner institutions.

This annual meeting serves as a crucial milestone in evaluating the project’s progress and ensuring alignment across all work packages. It reflects the consortium’s shared commitment to advancing engineering education that is technologically relevant, environmentally conscious, and future-ready.

The SPEED consortium extends its sincere thanks to the University of Stavanger for its warm hospitality and excellent organization, and to all partners for their continuous engagement in driving the project forward.

Speed Workshop

Electric Vehicles Skill Development: Gaps and Challenges

The ERASMUS+ SPEED project successfully conducted a dissemination workshop on “Electric Vehicles Skill Development: Gaps and Challenges” on June 16th, 2025.
The main objective of this online workshop was to present and discuss the key findings of various surveys that were performed to identify and understand the current challenges and gaps that the industry and academia face with respect to electric vehicles and electrification of the transport sector.
This interactive session provided a platform for open dialogue on how these insights can inform and enhance the development of educational modules and professional training in electric vehicle technologies.

Agenda of the workshop:

  • Opening and Introduction to the Workshop, Prof. Mostafa Abdelgeliel, Vice Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, Alexandria, Egypt
  • EV Introduction, Market Challenges and Requirements, Dr. Alaa El-Sharkawy, Global manager and technical fellow at FIAT-Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), Michigan, USA
  • The ERASMUS+ SPEED project, Dr. Mohammad Mansouri, Project Coordinator and Associate Professor in Energy Systems Engineering, University of Stavanger, Norway
  • Identified Gaps – The SPEED’s Surveys, Dr. Ahmed Abdelrahim, Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport, Alexandria, Egypt
  • Findings Summary, Prof. Mostafa Abdelgeliel, Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, Alexandria, Egypt
  • Open discussion

Kickoff meeting of SPEED project – February 19, 2025

We are pleased to announce the official launch of the SPEED project (Sustainable Practices for Employability and Entrepreneurial Development), as part of the Erasmus+ programme.

The kick-off meeting took place online on February 19, 2025, bringing together all project partners around a shared vision: to promote employability and sustainable entrepreneurship through innovative practices in higher education.

This launch meeting was an opportunity to:

  • Present the objectives and main components of the project,
  • Define the roles of each partner,
  • Plan the initial implementation steps,
  • Strengthen the synergy among participating institutions.

We warmly thank all partners for their commitment and active collaboration from this very first stage. Together, we are laying the foundation for an ambitious and transformative project for our academic communities.

SPEED Project

SPEED CBHE Erasmus+ Project

The SPEED project (Strategies for regional caPacity building of hybrid Elelctric vehicle in Engineering Division) is designed to empower Middle Eastern countries in navigating the rapidly evolving HEV/EV sector by addressing the critical skills gap. Through comprehensive needs assessments, innovative learning resources, and hands-on training, SPEED equips individuals with the knowledge and expertise necessary for the transition to electric and hybrid vehicles. By strengthening the role of educators, fostering cross-regional collaboration, and establishing a Center of Excellence, the project aims to create a lasting impact on the region’s HEV/EV industry. Ultimately, SPEED strives to contribute to a sustainable, greener future by advancing the region’s capabilities in the electric vehicle revolution.
